Mastering Your Goals

Have you ever had the urge to do something new and different? Only to give up after a couple of days, or when it gets tough? I know I certainly have. As you have most likely heard time and time again. Consistency is the solution to becoming successful and reaching your aspirations. The part you don’t often hear is how to reach your goals consistently. I will give you an in depth explanation into mastering consistency whilst working towards your goals.

Identify

So first of all, you need to identify the goal you are aiming for. You need to physically write that goal down in one word that best describes it because remember, improvement starts with action. The word that best describes my goal is helping. My target in life right now is to simply help as many people as I can with what I know. By narrowing down to a specific goal, your vision becomes a lot more clear, as you eliminate all the distractions around that goal. “Do not try to do everything. Do one thing well.” are the wise words of Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple.

Plan of action!

Now that you have identified your single goal. You need to implement a plan on how you are going to act on achieving that goal. I believe in thinking simple and short term when it comes to acting on making your goal a reality. What can you do every day to take small footsteps closer to that goal. Write down ideas, find a solution to the problem in your way. For me, I try to focus on writing one blog post at a time, or by challenging my clients at work. Small steps like this eventually grow into bigger steps and before you know it, you have walked a few miles. It’s not until you turn around and realise where you have come from that it seems like you’re making progress towards your vision.

Physically do!

Once you have implemented a strategy to progress towards your goal, simply do it. Apply what you have written in words into action. I understand you may be scared, or fearful of failure, but you need to get out there and experience failure as much as you need to experience success. Treat the idea of failing as a positive lesson that only needs to be done once. When you fail, you never go down that same path. This will lead you to making a new path, putting you one step closer to success! That is all I am doing. Taking one step at a time, trying new things and when I fail, I move on to the next strategy. When you find a strategy that works for you, stick with it and you will reach your goal.
